A Night at the Ball Park

One of the really enjoyable ways to spend a summer evening in Durham is to watch the Durham Bulls play baseball. The excitement of the crowd, the smell of food from the concessions, the many activities both on the field and between innings all sum up to a fun time for all.

For this painting I wanted to add depth to the painting with the strong value contrast between the detail and color of the player’s uniforms in the foreground and the darkness of the stands and night sky. Rather than paint every spectator in the stands, I added enough detail to allow your eye to fill in the rest.
