Hog Heaven

I really enjoy southern barbecue. When I moved to Durham years ago following college, I became acquainted with the “proper” way to eat it. A mound of pulled pork barbecue must be topped with a spicy, vinegar-based sauce and a pile of sweet coleslaw! Of course the meal wouldn’t be complete without a side of delicious hushpuppies…

One of my favorite places for barbecue in Durham is Hog Heaven on Guess Road. Over the years their banana pudding has also become a regular item on my orders. I enjoy the classic feel of the restaurant (where else can you see a veritable gallery of “pig art” on the walls?)

Recently while I was waiting for my order to be ready, I decided to try to capture the ambience in a watercolor painting. I hope you enjoy it. It makes me want to order some more barbecue!
